TRIP ITINERARY:
9:45am Arrive Jim Thorpe, PA – rest stop at the Train Depot 10:15am Tour the Asa Packer Mansion Museum This Italianate Villa was the home of philanthropist, railroad magnate, and founder of Lehigh University, Asa Packer. Built in 1861 by architect Samuel Sloan of Philadelphia, the home was constructed over a span of two years and cost a total of $14,000 dollars, the equivalent of $2.3 million dollars today. Topped by a red-ribbed tin roof and a central cupola or belvedere, the home was built over a cast iron frame and consists of 3 stories, 18 rooms and approximately 11,000 square feet of living space. 11:30am Lunch at Emerald’s Restaurant (inside the Inn at Jim Thorpe) Menu TBA Free time after lunch to explore Jim Thorpe 3:00pm Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway The train consists of old style passenger coaches from the 1920s. This was prior to air conditioning; however, there's a large clear window at each seat which can be opened to enjoy the clean air of the Lehigh River Gorge. 4:15pm Depart for home __________________________________________________________________________________________
