Henry Ford Museum Henry Ford set out to recognize and preserve the ingenuity and resourcefulness used-and the progress consistently made-by average Americans as they built good lives in this great country. This eye for how the past impacts our future is evident today in every exhibit at Henry Ford Museum. Think of the keys to our nation's growth and prosperity throughout our 200+ year history: From hay-powered horses to "horsepowered" autos, from early steam engines to automated assembly lines, from horse-drawn threshers and the toil of washboards to the astounding concept of mechanized chores, from a rough-hewn bench to the finest in upholstered furniture, right up to one of the world's most futuristic designs for a home... Exhibits exploring all these themes can be found in the Museum, along with information and activities that share one of Henry Ford's main points: Not every innovator was famous, but all are our national heroes. Everything you ever wanted to know about where we've come from, how we got here, and where we might be headed, can be found within the walls of Henry Ford Museum!
Greenfield Village was assembled from the dream of one man, to showcase the best and brightest stories of how our country was built. Fearing the foundations of our nation's progress would be lost to future generations, early in the 20th century Henry Ford began to bring together the original buildings from his family's homestead farm, then parts of his first workshops and auto factories. Soon he combined those American manufacturing roots with other American structures that had given birth to such miracles as manned flight and the electric light. Today we continue the vision he had, sharing the "inside stories" of history in the making - from the roots of family farms to the heights of urban industrialization, and everything in between. The actual homes, farm buildings, shops, and businesses from America's history are on-site and open for exploration, many with presenters to interpret the roles of the original occupants. Scores of sites and centuries of stories of American innovation, ingenuity, and resourcefulness, all within a pastoral 88-acre setting - an extraordinary trip back through time, all in one place: Greenfield Village!
