Galt House Hotel, Louisville, KY. One night. The 25-story, 1300-room Galt House is a name long associated with gracious hospitality and Southern style. The original hotel was erected in 1837. The current Galt House is presently the city's only hotel on the Ohio River. Many noted people have stayed at the Galt House, including Jefferson Davis, Charles Dickens, Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant. A $60 million renovation of the complex has been completed, which consists of east and west towers and connected across Fourth Street with a new $4 million conservatory. The 10,000-square-foot conservatory is three stories in height and enclosed by steel and glass. It features a cafe, a cocktail lounge and gathering area, an aviary and greenhouse space on one level with large trees and foliage. It offers views of downtown Louisville and the Ohio River.
Gaylord Opryland Resort Hotel, Nashville, TN. Two nights. Admission to the Biltmore Estate & Winery, Asheville, NC – The Biltmore Estate is America’s largest private residence, and is modeled after 16th-century French châteaux covering more than 125,000 square feet. Designed by renowned architect Richard Morris Hunt, Biltmore has 250 rooms, 65 fireplaces, 43 bathrooms, and 3 kitchens, and is filled with the immense collection of art and furnishings of its original owner, George Vanderbilt. The beauty of this grand home extends out-of-doors to its gardens and managed woodland designed by America’s father of landscape architecture, Frederick Law Olmsted.
At the Biltmore Estate Winery, enjoy a self-guided tour through production areas, then stop in the tasting room, where friendly hosts offer tasting tips and samples of Biltmore wines. Natural Bridge, VA - "The Drama of Creation" features dramatic music and lighting overlooking the 250-foot Natural Bridge. On May 22, 1927 then President of the United States Calvin Coolidge pressed the button that inaugurated the night illumination of Natural Bridge. Phineas Stevens, celebrated lighting engineer, had designed and installed an impressive system of lighting which at night transforms the Bridge and glen into a marvel of living stone. To this, musical accompaniment was added to form a moving drama of creation, interpreted by some of the greatest symphonic compositions of all time and vocal music of unusual quality and appeal. During the night pageant, mountain sides form a vast stage. Scenes move and change with the mood of gripping music in a spectacle which takes the onlooker back into the eternal ages.
Natural Bridge Wax Museum - The Natural Bridge Wax Museum features scenes of Virginia and Natural Bridge history where the curtain opens on George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, the Confederacy, all perched on narrated sets.
